Close Your Eyes

One of the "claims to fame" that Grey Eye Glances can make is that of having invented the Borders Bookstore Tour. Billboard Magazine wrote a feature story about this novel approach to touring in 1997. When the band formed in 1992, the keyboard player, Dwayne Keith was working at Borders in Marlton, NJ. At that time Borders was pretty much was known for bringing in harpists, violinists and other classical musicians. Dwayne convinced them to let GEG (Sojourn, in those days - but that is a different story) play a show in the espresso bar. Since then GEG has played literally hundreds of Borders shows. You also see the likes of Sting, Lyle Lovett, Jackson Browne and James Taylor, as well as many others playing at Borders. |
Dwayne came up with the idea for Close Your Eyes while he was hanging out in an internet chat room. No... not that kind of chat room. It was an Ayn Rand chat room. That's what comes from spending so much time in so many Borders bookstores. (See the bottom of this page for more on that.) Close Your Eyes explores what a relationship might be like between two people: one selfish, one not, the likes of which would be found in Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead. |
